✔️ Why should you try it?
- Crispy and golden brown every time.
- Quick and easy - ready in under 30 minutes.
- Healthy and versatile - adjust the seasoning to your taste, or try the optional variations.
🥘 Ingredients
A full ingredients list along with Metric and US Customary measurements, can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post.

Sweet Potatoes - 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries.
Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon is needed to coat the sweet potatoes before putting them in the air fryer.
Seasonings - I use my signature seasoning which is a mixture of smoked paprika, garlic powder, oregano, sea salt and pepper.
Cornflour (optional) - For extra crispy fries, toss the cut sweet potatoes in 1 tablespoon of cornflour (cornstarch) before adding the oil and seasoning. This helps create a crisp, golden brown coating as they cook.

📖 Variations
- Swap the potatoes - Try regular white potatoes instead of sweet potatoes. Soak them in water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then pat dry before air frying. This helps them crisp up nicely.
- Extra crispy fries - For fries with a crunchier exterior, toss them in cornflour before adding the oil and seasonings. This simple step gives a golden brown, crispy finish.
- Change the seasoning - Mix things up with Cajun seasoning, fajita seasoning, smoked paprika, or hot chili powder for some heat. You can also try a pinch of cinnamon for a subtly sweet twist.
- Cheesy fries - Serve in a bowl and sprinkle with grated mozzarella or cheddar while still hot so it melts over the fries.
- Oil variations - Swap olive oil for avocado oil for a slightly different flavour and higher smoke point.
🔪 Instructions
One: Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F).
Two: Peel and cut your sweet potatoes into fries. Toss in cornflour if using.
Three: Mix the fries with the olive oil and seasoning mix.
Four: Air fry for 18-20 minutes, shaking after 10 minutes.

Top Tips
- Choose the right sweet potatoes - use two medium sweet potatoes that are roughly the same size and not too long. This makes it easier to cut fries of a consistent length and width, which helps them cook evenly.
- Preheat the air fryer - make sure the basket is hot before adding the fries. This helps them crisp up quickly and prevents sticking.
- Cut evenly - try to make the fries roughly the same thickness so they cook at the same rate. If you don't like the slightly charred, thinner ends (personally, I love them), trim them off before cooking.
- Shake halfway through - after about 10 minutes, give the basket a shake to ensure the fries cook evenly and get crispy all over.
🍴 Serving suggestions
These fries make a perfect side dish for a wide range of meals, from courgette and feta burgers and cheese & bacon turnovers to courgette and feta frittata or baked cornflake chicken nuggets. They're also excellent for dipping into roasted red pepper hummus or your favourite sauces.

Storage
Store - in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes to restore crispiness.
Freeze - arrange cooked fries in a single layer on a baking tray and freeze until firm. Transfer to a freezer bag and store for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer straight from frozen for 10-12 minutes at 200°C (400°F) until hot and crispy.
❓ Frequently asked questions
I prefer to use olive oil, but vegetable oil or avocado oil can also be used for air frying sweet potato fries as they have high smoking points.

Coating the fries lightly in cornflour (cornstarch) before adding the oil and seasoning helps create a crisp, golden brown exterior. It's also important not to overcrowd the basket and to cook them in batches so the hot air can circulate properly.
