These seasoned sweet potato fries are the most recent creation in my air fryer, and they went down a storm with the whole family!
I served them with my tender and juicy air fryer chicken breasts and a green side salad (I cooked the chicken in the air fryer first and left it to rest under foil whilst I air-fried the sweet potato fries!).

✔️ Why should you try it?
- Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.
- Perfect as a side.
- Great for dipping.
- Uses less oil than deep frying or baking in the oven.
🥘 Ingredients

Sweet Potatoes - 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries.
Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon is needed to coat the sweet potatoes before putting them in the air fryer.
Seasonings - I use my signature seasoning which is a mixture of smoked paprika, garlic powder, oregano, sea salt and pepper.
What is an air fryer?
Air fryers are small(ish) kitchen appliances that operate like a convection oven—except in a smaller, more concentrated space.
The air is circulated at a high temperature and evenly around the food, which makes the food cook more quickly than in a conventional oven and helps give foods a crispy coating without the need for lots of oil and fat.
🔪 Instructions
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
One: Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F).
Two: Peel and cut your sweet potatoes into fries.
Three: Mix the fries with the olive oil and seasoning mix.
Four: Air fry for 20 minutes, shaking after 10 minutes.

💭 Top tips
- Use two sweet potatoes that are roughly the same size and aren't too long so you can cut fries from the full length of the sweet potato.
- Preheat your air fryer so the air fryer basket is nice and hot when you place the fries in it. It helps to keep them crispy.
- Shake after 10 minutes to make sure the fries cook evenly.
- If you don't like the slightly charred spindly ends of the sweet potato fries (I love those bits!) just make sure you cut them off before air frying. so the fries are a uniform length and width.
🍴 Serving suggestions
These fries make a great side dish to so many different dishes including courgette feta burgers, cheese & bacon turnovers, courgette and feta frittata, and baked cornflake chicken nuggets.
They are also great for dipping into my roasted red pepper hummus!
📖 Variations
- Try with regular white potatoes instead. Don't forget you will need to soak white potatoes before using them in the air fryer, to release the excess starch! 30 minutes soaking is all they need.
- Change the seasonings. Try using Cajun seasoning, fajita seasoning, or even hot chili powder if you like things spicy.
- Make them cheesy fries by serving them in a bowl with grated mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top.

🧊 Suitable for freezing?
Fries made in the air fryer are best eaten fresh. They are not suitable for home freezing. Leftovers can be reheated but they will lose their crispy crunch.
❓ FAQS
I prefer to use olive oil, but vegetable oil or sunflower oil can also be used for air frying sweet potato fries.
Yes, air fryers are perfect for cooking frozen potato fries. Refer to your manufacturer's guidance for cooking times.

Equipment
- Chopping Board
- Knife
Ingredients
- 2 Sweet Potatoes roughly the same size and length
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil or use sunflower or vegetable oil
- ½ teaspoon Sea Salt
- ½ teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- ¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ¼ teaspoon Oregano
- ⅛ teaspoon Black Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400F).
- Peel and cut the potatoes in half lengthways (which will make it easier to lay them flat on a chopping board and start cutting into long slices). The thinner you cut them, the more crispy they will be. I recommend that you cut them to about 1 cm thickness
- Place the sweet potato fries into a bowl and pour in the olive oil and sprinkle over the seasonings. Use your hands to make sure each sweet potato is coated.
- Put the fries into the air fryer basket and air fry for 20 minutes, shaking the basket after 10 minutes to make sure they cook evenly.
Notes
- Use two sweet potatoes that are roughly the same size and aren't too long so you can cut fries from the full length of the sweet potato.
- Preheat your air fryer so the air fryer basket is nice and hot when you place the fries in it. It helps to keep them crispy.
- Shake after 10 minutes to make sure the fries cook evenly.
- Try with regular white potatoes instead. Don't forget you will need to soak white potatoes before using them in the air fryer.
- Try different seasonings.
- Make them cheesy fries by serving them in a bowl with grated mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top.
