🛒 Ingredient notes

- Bread - White, wholemeal, or granary all work well, and you can even use sourdough like in this recipe.
- Cheese - For this recipe, extra-mature cheddar cheese is used. However, you can use any type of cheese you prefer, as long as it's a variety that melts well. Gruyere and brie are great options that will give your cheese on toast a different flavour.
- Butter - Softened butter is used to spread onto the bread to make it lovely and crispy.
- Mustard Mayo - A simple spread made with mayonnaise and Dijon mustard.
🔪 How to make cheese on toast in air fryer?
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
1: Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C (350 °F).

Top Tips
- Use freshly grated cheese from a block rather than pre-grated cheese for better melting and flavour.
- Always place the bread butter-side down in the air fryer basket to achieve golden, crispy toast.
- For a lighter version, choose reduced-fat cheddar and lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking oil instead of using butter.
- If you don't have grated cheese, cheese slices work just as well and are a convenient alternative.
- Air fryer models vary, so check the toast as it cooks and adjust the time or temperature to prevent the cheese from over-melting or burning.

🥡 Storage
Air fryer cheese on toast is best enjoyed fresh and hot straight from the air fryer.
Store - If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.
Reheat - In the air fryer for a few minutes until warmed through and the cheese has melted again.
Keep in mind that the texture may change slightly after refrigeration, and the toast may not be as crispy as when freshly made.

I love the idea of dijon mustard on this. I always put dijon in my mac and cheese and people think I'm crazy. It's such a great flavor combination.

Kimmie says
Just tried this; it was so good! The bread I had was already soft so the butter just made the bottom a little soggy. Next time I'll use a harder bread. Never used mustard & mayo in my cheese toast before, but I will from now on. Super delicious.
