Easy homemade pepperoni pizza fries, made with frozen french fries or chips! The perfect cheesy snack time treat for game day or parties!

The cooked chips are topped with store-bought pizza sauce, grated mozzarella, grated cheddar, and finished with pepperoni slices, before being baked in the oven until the cheese is oozy and melty. Love my cheesy chips? Then you're going to love these!

My kids request these homemade pizza fries A LOT! At least three times a week on average....but don't worry, I don't actually make them three times a week!

They do make a great footie-watching snack though, and they're also perfect for movie nights too.

I use frozen chips to make this recipe, but feel free to use homemade chips if you prefer.

✔️ Why you'll love this recipe!

    • Fuss free and effortless to make.
    • Perfect food for watching the footie or rugby.
    • Vary the toppings to suit your own tastes.
    • Great for anyone who loves pizza AND fries.

    🛒 Ingredient notes

    Ingredients for pizza fries.

    To make these delicious pizza fries you will need;

    • Frozen Chips - or use frozen french fries if you prefer. I sometimes also use waffle fries as they make scooping the melty mozzarella super easy!
    • Pizza Sauce - store-bought or make a homemade pizza sauce with passata, tomato puree, onion powder, garlic powder, and oregano. A jar of marinara sauce could also be used.
    • Cheese - I use a combination of grated mozzarella and strong cheddar for the best flavour/texture combo.
    • Pepperoni Slices - I like to use smaller slices of pepperoni if I can find them, but larger slices will work too!
    • Oregano - a little sprinkle of dried oregano finishes the pizza fries off nicely!

🔪 How to make pizza fries

The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post

One: Place the chips or fries on a baking sheet and cook according to packet instructions in a preheated oven.

💡 Pro Tip - for extra crispy chips, air fry them rather than oven bake.

Two: Pile the cooked chips into a smaller deeper dish such as an iron skillet, casserole dish, or deep baking dish.

Three: Spoon over the pizza sauce.

Four: Sprinkle over the grated mozzarella, grated cheddar, and oregano, then lay the pepperoni slices on top. Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes until the cheese has melted.

    🍴 Serving suggestions

Serve the fries on their own for a snack, or with pizza bianca and a green salad for a more substantial meal.

    📖 Variations

Vary the ingredients based on your favourite pizza toppings!

    • Hawaiian Pizza Fries - top with sliced ham and pineapple.
    • Vegetarian Pizza Fries - swap out the pepperoni for red bell peppers, green peppers, black olives and sweetcorn.
    • Chicken and Mushroom - use leftover roast chicken and sliced white mushrooms.
    • Margherita - leave off the pepperoni.
    • Italian Pizza Fries - top with cherry tomatoes and scatter with basil leaves and grated Parmesan.
    • Make spicy pizza fries and add sliced jalepenos.
    • Swap the pizza sauce for BBQ sauce.
    • Use waffle fries instead of regular chips or french fries.
    • Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a bit of colour.

    🥡 Storage

Pizza fries are best eaten fresh from the oven!

The recipe is not suitable for home freezing.

    ❓ Frequently asked questions

Can I make pizza fries ahead?

Pizza fries are best eaten fresh, so I don't recommend cooking them beforehand. You can get all of the ingredients ready to go though, such as grating the cheeses for example.

Can I make them in my air fryer?

Yes, simply air fry the chips or fries then add the toppings and air fry for a further few minutes to melt the cheese. You might want to lay non-stick parchment in the base of the air fryer (not the air fryer basket) for minimal clean-up!

Use whatever temperature it tells you on the packet of frozen chips. Hope that helps!
