🥄 Equipment
Which air fryer? I use the Ninja Foodi 5.8 litre Grill and Air Fryer with 4 customisable cooking functions including air fry, roast, bake, and dehydrate!
What is an air fryer?
Air fryers are small(ish) kitchen appliances that operate like a convection oven—except in a smaller, more concentrated space.
The air is circulated at a high temperature and evenly around the food, which makes the food cook more quickly than in a conventional oven (saving energy), and helps give foods a crispy coating without the need for lots of oil and fat.
🔪 How to make air fryer chicken fajitas in a Ninja Foodi
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
One: Place the chicken, peppers, and onions in a mixing bowl, and mix in the olive oil and fajita spice mix.
Two: Spoon the mixture into the air fryer basket and air fry for 15-17 minutes, shaking often to ensure even cooking.
Three: Test the chicken with a meat thermometer to make sure it has reached 75C (165F).

💭 Expert tips
- Ensure the chicken and vegetables are not too overcrowded in your air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the fajitas in two batches or half the recipe.
- Save time and use a store-bought fajita seasoning mix (1 standard sachet) instead of making your own.
- If you have time, marinate the chicken and vegetables in the fajita spice mix for an hour before air frying. Or even better, mix everything together the night before and store it in the fridge until ready to cook!
🍴 Serving suggestions
Serve the air fryer chicken fajitas with flour tortillas, rice, grated cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and lime wedges!
Leftovers are good on air fryer jacket potatoes, or, why not make my tasty chicken fajita pasta bake?

📖 Variations
- Make them spicy and add a chopped red chili or a teaspoon of chipotle paste.
- Use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts.
- Make steak fajitas.
- For air fryer veggie fajitas omit the chicken strips and add more peppers and onions.
🥡 Storage
Store: Air fryer fajitas are best eaten fresh, straight out of the air fryer. Leftovers can be sorted in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Reheat: Microwave or air fry until piping hot.
Freeze: The cooked fajitas can be frozen for up to 3 months. Defrost in the fridge before reheating.
