✔️ Why you'll love this recipe!
- Only 2 ingredients.
- Easy and quick to make.
- Delicious sweet treat.
- Simple dessert idea.
🛒 Ingredients
Only two ingredients are needed to make these delicious Nutella puff pastry swirls:
Puff Pastry - I use a ready-rolled sheet of puff pastry.
Nutella - or another chocolate hazelnut spread.
🔪 How to make Nutella puff pastry swirls
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
One: Lay the sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry on a flat surface and spread an even layer of Nutella, leaving a 1cm border at the top and bottom.
Two: Roll the pastry tightly from the long edge, then slice into 1.5cm rounds using a sharp knife. For easier slicing, chill the rolled pastry in the fridge for 10 minutes if time permits.
Three: Arrange the Nutella swirls on a lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
Four: Bake for 15 minutes or until golden and crispy. Once cooled, dust with icing sugar for a sweet finish.
Top Tips
- Roll the pastry as tightly as possible to create beautifully defined layers in the swirls.
- If time allows, chill the rolled pastry for 10 minutes before slicing and baking. This helps firm up the pastry, making it easier to cut clean swirls.
- For a glossy finish, brush the swirls with an egg wash before baking. For an extra touch, dust the baked Nutella swirls with icing sugar.
🍴 Serving suggestions
Serve these delicious Nutella snacks as sweet canapes at parties, an after-school sweet treat, or even breakfast!
They're also delicious for dessert, with fresh berries and a scoop of honeycomb ice cream.
📖 Variations
- If you prefer not to use Nutella, substitute with fruity mincemeat, raspberry jam, peanut butter, or Biscoff spread.
- Add extra crunch by sprinkling chopped hazelnuts over the Nutella layer before rolling, slicing, and baking.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free puff pastry to make the swirls suitable for all!
🥡 Storage
Store - keep the baked Nutella swirls in an airtight container for up to 4 days. While they are safe to eat beyond this period, the pastry will begin to soften and lose its crisp texture.
Reheat - Nutella pinwheels are typically enjoyed at room temperature. However, if you prefer them warm, simply heat them in a hot oven for a few minutes until they’re lightly crisp.
Freeze - for best results, freeze the swirls before baking. To do this, place the unbaked swirls on a baking sheet and freeze for about an hour, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag. You can bake them directly from frozen, just extend the cooking time by 5 minutes.
