Easy air fryer brownies made with just six pantry staple ingredients, including gooey Nutella spread and sweet milk chocolate chips!
These air fryer chocolate brownies have a dense and fudgy middle, with a thin and crispy top. The perfect balance of textures for a brownie!
I've found the best baking tin for making these brownies in my Ninja Foodi Air Fryer is a shallow 20 cm square tin, but if you have a different model of air fryer you may need to use a different size pan.
For a round air fryer, a 20cm round sandwich tin might be better, or for a dual drawer air fryer, a 2lb loaf tin will probably work best.
You can also now buy silicone air fryer cake tins that mould to the shape of your air fryer basket. So there is no excuse not to get baking!

🛒 Ingredient notes
Nutella - if the spread is really hard, soften it in the microwave for 10 seconds before beginning the recipe.
Eggs - 2 large eggs at room temperature.
Flour - plain white flour.
Cocoa Powder - use a good quality unsweetened cocoa powder for the best rich chocolaty taste.
Salt - a tiny pinch works well with the sweet chocolate.
Chocolate Chips - milk chocolate chips or chunks. You could also use white chocolate or dark chocolate chips.
🔪 How to make brownies in air fryer
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
One: Preheat the air fryer to 180C (350F) and grease and line a suitably sized baking pan (I use a 20cm (8") square shallow tin) with nonstick parchment paper.
Two: Mix together the Nutella and eggs in a large mixing bowl until you achieve a smooth batter.
Three: Fold in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and then mix in the chocolate chips.
Four: Spoon the brownie batter into your tin (I find it's best to put the baking tin in the air fryer basket before switching it on to preheat) and air fry for 15-18 minutes.
Pro Tip - If you are using a different size pan, the cooking times may vary. You want the middle to be just set but still have the slightest wobble, with a glossy crisp top. Start checking for doneness after 14 minutes, but they might take up to 20 minutes.
Five: Place the brownie tin on a wire rack to cool, then pop it in the fridge for 3-4 hours to firm up (or the freezer for 2 hours), before cutting the brownies into squares.
Top Tips
- Try and use Nutella if you can, as some other chocolate spreads are too oily.
- If the Nutella is quite stiff, soften it in the microwave for 10 seconds.
- It's best to use room-temperature eggs, as they will mix better with the other ingredients and will result in a more evenly textured brownie. So, if you keep your eggs in the fridge, make sure you take them out at least an hour before you start baking.
- Avoid opening the air fryer too often during cooking, as this can affect the temperature and cooking time. Only check the brownies for doneness once or twice during cooking.
🍴 Serving suggestions
Serve the air fryer brownies with a glass of milk or a cup of tea for a mid-morning pick-me-up.
It also makes a decadent dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or homemade honeycomb ice cream.
Why not serve small brownie squares for Afternoon tea with mini sausage rolls, cucumber sandwiches, and air fryer scones with jam and clotted cream?
📖 Variations
- Add a swirl of smooth and creamy peanut butter or sweet biscoff spread through the batter before baking.
- Use peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips.
- Mix in a handful of chopped nuts for texture.
- Add dried fruit such as raisins or cranberries for extra sweetness.
- Boost the flavour with a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Add a tablespoon of dark brown sugar for extra sweetness.
🥡 Storage
Store - Once cool, store the air fryer brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Freeze - Allow the brownies to cool completely, then place them in a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost for 1 hour before serving.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Yes, just increase the cooking time by 5 minutes.
Cooking times and temperatures may vary depending on your air fryer model, so it's always a good idea to consult the user manual for specific instructions. As a general rule, you may need to adjust the temperature by 10 degrees Celsius and the cooking time by a few minutes.
