🛒 Ingredient notes

Apples - I used Granny Smith apples for their tartness and bright green colour, but any green apple variety will work.
Biscoff Spread - Smooth Biscoff spread is the best choice for this recipe, as it adds a delicious and slightly spiced flavour to the monsters. However, you can also swap it for peanut butter or Nutella if you prefer.
Pumpkin Seeds - These are used to create the monster teeth, adding a crunchy texture and a boost of nutrients like iron and zinc. If you don't have pumpkin seeds, you can use sunflower seeds instead.
Strawberries - Thinly sliced strawberries are used to make the monster tongues, adding a bright red pop of colour and a dose of vitamin C.
Edible Eyes - The finishing touch that brings the monsters to life! You can find edible candy eyes at most supermarkets or online, but if you can't get hold of them, you can use raisins or currants instead. The eyes are stuck on with Biscoff spread, which acts as a delicious and sticky glue.
🔪 Instructions
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
One: Wash and dry the apples. Then, use a sharp knife to quarter the green apples and slice off the core and seeds from each quarter.
Two: Cut a v-shape into the centre of each apple quarter to create the monster's mouth. Repeat this process for all three apples.
Three: Spread a layer of Biscoff spread or your chosen nut butter into each mouth.
Four: Press 4 pumpkin seeds into the top of the mouth to form the monster's teeth.
Five: Place a triangular piece of sliced strawberry into each mouth to form the tongue.
Six: Secure the edible eyes (or raisins) with a little Biscoff spread.
Seven: Serve immediately or cover and chill in the fridge until ready to serve.

🍴 Serving suggestions
Here are some serving suggestions for these green apple monsters:
- Arrange the green apple monsters on a platter with other Halloween-themed snacks like veggie skeletons, mummy hot dogs, or spider deviled eggs.
- These green apple monsters make a healthy and fun addition to any kid's lunchbox. Pack them alongside some carrot sticks, hummus, and whole-grain crackers for a well-balanced meal.
- When the kids come home from school, surprise them with these green apple monsters as a fun and healthy snack option. They are quick and easy to make, so you can whip them up in no time.
- Set up a spooky movie night with some Halloween-themed movies like Hocus Pocus or The Nightmare Before Christmas. Serve these green apple monsters alongside some popcorn for a fun and festive snack selection.
📖 Variations
- Instead of using sliced strawberries for the tongue, try using sliced cheese. Cheddar cheese works well and add a savoury twist to the recipe.
- If you can't find edible candy eyes, you can use chocolate chips instead. Simply press two chocolate chips into the Biscoff spread to create the eyes.
- For a fun and crunchy twist, press small broken bits of pretzels into the top of the apples to create monster "hair". This adds a salty crunch to the recipe.
- To give your green apple monsters a mummy-like appearance, wrap thin strips of white cheese or prosciutto around the apple quarters.

🥡 Storage
These green apple monsters are best served immediately after making them, but if you have leftovers, here are some tips for storing them:
Store - Cover the green apple monsters with cling film or store them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Keep in mind that the apples may start to brown slightly over time, but they will still be safe to eat.
Freezer - These green apple monsters are not suitable for freezing, as the texture of the apples will become mushy and unappetising when thawed.
Assemble Later - If you want to prepare the ingredients ahead of time, you can cut the apples, strawberries, and pumpkin seeds and store them separately in the refrigerator until you're ready to assemble the monsters. When you're ready to serve, simply spread the Biscoff spread onto the apple quarters and add the toppings.
