    • Pizza and bagels are both beloved comfort foods with unique origins and characteristics. When combined, they create the magic of pizza bagels - a delicious fusion of the indulgent flavours of pizza and the comforting warmth of bagels. This versatile snack is perfect for a quick breakfast, lazy brunch, or evening treat.
    • They're a quick and easy snack to make, perfect for when you're short on time or don't feel like cooking a full meal.
    • You can customise them with your favorite toppings, making them a versatile snack that can be enjoyed any time of day.

    🛒 Ingredient notes

    Ingredients for pizza bagels.

Bagels - I used plain standard bagels but you can also use bagel thins and wholemeal bagels. Crumpets would also work well.

Pizza Sauce - Homemade or shop-bought is fine. Alternatively, you can use tomato puree, passata, ketchup, or red pesto.

Grated Mozzarella Cheese - It melts easily, making it perfect for pizza bagels. Buffalo mozzarella could also be used.

Chorizo - A popular topping for pizza and adds a spicy, smoky flavor to pizza bagels.

Oregano - A herb that is commonly used as a seasoning for pizza. It has a slightly bitter, pungent flavor and is often used in Italian and Mediterranean cuisine.

🔪 How to make amazing air fryer pizza bagels

The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post

One: Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C (350 °F).

Two: Slice the bagels in half horizontally and place them on a cutting board.

Three: Spread a layer of pizza sauce or tomato puree over each bagel half.

Four: Sprinkle grated mozzarella cheese over the sauce.

Five: Cut the chorizo into small slices and distribute them evenly over the cheese.

Six: Sprinkle oregano over the top of each bagel.

Seven: Place the pizza bagels in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overlapping. Cook the pizza bagels for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

    Top Tips

    • Preheating the air fryer is important to ensure that the pizza bagels cook evenly and quickly. This will also help to prevent the bagels from becoming soggy.
    • Make sure to leave enough space between the bagels so that they can cook evenly.
    • Keep an eye on the bagel pizzas while they are cooking in the air fryer. Overcooking them can cause the cheese to burn and the bagels to become too crispy. Remove them from the air fryer as soon as the cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help the cheese to set and prevent the toppings from sliding off.

    🍴 Serving suggestions

Pizza bagels are a delicious and easy-to-make snack that can be enjoyed on their own or paired with other dishes. Here are some serving suggestions to help you create a complete meal:

    • Air Fryer Chips
    • Air Fryer Corn on the Cob
    • Green Salad
    • Dips
    • Celery, Cherry Tomatoes, and Carrot Sticks

    📖 Variations

    • For a vegetarian option, skip the chorizo and add some sliced vegetables instead. Try using peppers, mushrooms, onions, or sweetcorn for added flavour and nutrition.
    • For a tropical twist, add some pineapple and ham to your pizza bagels. This classic Hawaiian pizza topping adds a sweet and savoury flavour that pairs well with the bagels.
    • Instead of using pizza sauce, spread a layer of BBQ sauce on your bagels. Top with shredded chicken, red onions, and cheese for a delicious BBQ chicken bagel (try my BBQ Chicken Pizza too).
    • For a classic Italian twist, top your bagels with sliced tomatoes, fresh basil, and mozzarella cheese. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper for a simple and delicious Margherita pizza bagel.

    🥡 Storage

Pizza bagels are best eaten fresh, straight from the air fryer!

Store - Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Place them in an airtight container, and when you're ready to eat them, simply reheat them in the microwave, oven, or air fryer until they are heated through.

Freeze - They can be stored in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. To reheat frozen pizza bagels, simply remove them from the freezer and air fry or oven bake straight from frozen until heated through.
