🥘 Ingredients
Garlic and Herb Boursin Cheese - the star ingredient of this recipe, providing a rich, creamy base for the pasta sauce. The cheese is made from a blend of fresh cream, garlic, and herbs, giving it a distinct and delicious flavour. Boursin cheese is also known for its smooth and spreadable texture, which makes it perfect for melting and creating a creamy pasta sauce.
Smoked Bacon - adds a savoury and smoky flavour to the dish, which complements the creamy Boursin sauce nicely.
Garlic - a staple ingredient in many pasta recipes and adds loads of flavour to the dish.
Parsley - used as a garnish to add a pop of colour and freshness to the dish.
Italian Hard Cheese - Parmesan or Grana Padano is used to add a nutty and salty flavour to the dish.
🔪 Instructions
The recipe card with ingredient quantities and detailed instructions can be found at the bottom of the post
One: Cook the pasta according to the packet instructions, reserving 1 cup of pasta water before draining the pasta.
Two: Meanwhile, in a frying pan, fry the chopped smoked bacon and the chopped garlic in a little olive oil for a few minutes until the bacon is cooked and crisp.
Three Add the Boursin cheese and half the cup of reserved pasta cooking water and stir with a wooden spoon to combine.
Four: Keep adding more water until you reach your desired sauce consistency. It's best to do this slowly so you don't make the sauce too thin.
Five Incorporate the cooked pasta into the sauce, followed by the chopped parsley and grated hard cheese.
Top Tips
- Use a large pot of salted water to boil your pasta. The salted water adds lots of flavour.
- Reserve some of the starchy pasta water before draining the pasta. This water is useful for thinning out the sauce and making it smoother.
- Sprinkle some red pepper flakes over the top of the pasta before serving for a delicious spicy kick. Alternatively, you could add some freshly cracked black pepper or chopped fresh herbs like basil or oregano.
🍴 Serving suggestions
Serve the boursin pasta with a peppery rocket salad or green vegetables such as roasted tenderstem broccoli or air fryer asparagus.
For something a bit more substantial, serve with garlic butter chicken strips and pesto focaccia!
📖 Variations
- To make the dish vegetarian, simply leave out the bacon and add chopped sun-dried tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, and toasted pine nuts. This will add some extra flavour and texture to the dish while also making it more filling.
- For a healthier version, you can add a handful of peas, sweetcorn, or baby spinach to the dish.
- For an extra pop of flavour, you can add a finely chopped red onion and cook it with the garlic. This will add some sweetness to the dish.
- Swap the Boursin cheese for soft creamy goat cheese or soft blue cheese.
- For a more substantial meal, you can add leftover roast chicken, prawns, or air fryer salmon to the dish. This will add some extra protein and make the dish more filling.
🥡 Storage
Boursin pasta is best served hot, straight from the hob. It's a perfect dish for a quick and easy weeknight dinner or for a casual lunch with friends. Once the dish is prepared simply divide it into individual portions and garnish it with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.
Store - leftover Boursin pasta can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. However, the texture of the pasta may change and the sauce may dry out slightly after being refrigerated. To reheat, add a splash of milk or cream to the pasta and reheat in the microwave or on the hob until heated through.
Freeze - if you plan on storing the pasta for longer than a few days, you can freeze it. Portion the pasta into freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to 2-3 months. To reheat, defrost the pasta in the fridge overnight, then reheat it in the microwave or on the hob as described above.
